We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to lead clinical operations at Open Door Health Center, initially overseeing our Mankato, MN location. Job Summary:
The Medical Director will serve as a key member of the leadership team at Open Door Health Center, overseeing the clinical operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. This role involves a balance of 60% clinical patient care time and 40% administrative responsibilities, where the Medical Director will provide strategic leadership, manage the clinical team, and collaborate with the COO and other stakeholders to align the center’s clinical services with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and best practices. The Medical Director will be committed to improving health outcomes in underserved communities while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations governing FQHCs.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Patient Care (60% of time):
Direct Patient Care:
Provide high-quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population, including primary care services, chronic disease management, preventive care, and health promotion.
Ensure that all patient care is provided in compliance with clinical protocols, best practices, and regulatory standards.
Build rapport with patients, addressing their healthcare needs in an accessible and culturally competent manner.
Supervision of Clinical Staff:
Lead by example, ensuring that the medical team delivers evidence-based care while fostering an environment of professionalism, teamwork, and compassion.
Collaborate with other clinicians to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
Actively participate in patient care team meetings, providing clinical expertise and mentoring to staff.
Clinical Quality and Improvement:
Actively monitor clinical performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance care quality and patient outcomes.
Engage in initiatives to improve patient satisfaction, health outcomes, and reduce health disparities, with a focus on underserved populations.
Administrative Leadership (40% of time):
Strategic Leadership and Oversight:
Collaborate with the COO and other senior leadership to develop and implement the center’s clinical strategy, aligning patient care services with organizational objectives.
Lead the development and review of clinical protocols, policies, and procedures in accordance with FQHC regulations and industry best practices.
Monitor the performance of clinical services, including tracking clinical metrics, patient satisfaction, and outcomes.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:
Ensure that clinical services meet all federal, state, and local regulatory standards, including those specific to FQHCs.
Stay up-to-date with evolving healthcare regulations and ensure the center’s clinical practices comply with relevant guidelines (e.g., HRSA, CMS).
Lead risk management efforts, including identifying clinical risks and creating action plans to mitigate them.
Team Development and Staff Management:
Support recruitment, training, and professional development of clinical staff, ensuring they are well-equipped to provide high-quality care.
Provide ongoing mentorship, coaching, and performance evaluations for medical staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work culture.
Develop and implement continuing education programs to ensure clinical staff remains current with the latest healthcare developments.
Budget and Resource Management:
Collaborate with the COO and other leadership to develop and manage the clinical department’s budget, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently.
Participate in the selection of clinical technologies, equipment, and software that will support service delivery and improve patient care.
Data Monitoring and Reporting:
Review and analyze clinical data to assess performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to improve care.
Regularly report to the COO and board on clinical performance metrics, patient outcomes, and other key indicators.
