Job Description
Chief Medical Officer
Department: Administrative

Mission

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Medical Officer works as part of the clinical team and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing/supervising all aspects of the clinical program of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Devote 50% of his/her time to direct patient care and 50% to administrative duties.
Oversee the day-to-day operation of all clinical services across all locations.
Supervise and evaluate physicians, mid-level providers, and other assigned staff. Confers with the Human Resources Director in the selection, promotion, discipline, and discharge of clinical staff.
Meet regularly with clinical staff to receive input and share information; serves as liaison between the clinical staff and CEO.
Plan, organize, and direct Clinical Programs and implement specific action steps toward achieving organizational goals and meeting accreditation standards.
Implement clinical components of any Program Guidance publications from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Lead the Performance Improvement Committee and Quality Assurance Committee.
Collaborate with the Executive Team to provide direction, develop plans, and create programs with related budgets.
Represent the organization to the community; serve as liaison and coordinate care with other community providers.
Ensure corporate compliance with industry standards and accreditation agencies.
Demonstrate awareness of age-specific, cultural, and spiritual practices of patients, staff, and visitors.
Understand the functional status and physical needs of patients, staff, and visitors.
Understand and fulfill specific duties/responsibilities as outlined in the individual contract.
Perform other necessary duties as required by the Center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.
EVALUATION:
The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and carried out by the CEO.
The evaluation will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.
A formal evaluation will normally be performed annually but may be initiated at other times by the CEO.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited medical school with a Doctor of Medicine degree.
Completion of an approved residency program; Board Certification preferred.
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Tennessee.
Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience (both inpatient and outpatient) and three (3) years of relevant administrative experience.
Experience working with indigent, minority, and rural populations preferred.
