The Community •Location -The geographic service area is Western Mora County, NM, with a population of approximately 4,096 according to the US Census Bureau (2024), covering 1931 square miles with a density of 2.5 persons per square mile. A total of forty-one different rural villages are included in the service area. The village of Mora is located 30 miles north of Las Vegas, 45 miles east of Taos, 100 miles from Santa Fe, and 150 miles from Albuquerque. •The population is 81% Hispanic, 18% White Non-Hispanic, and the remainder a mix of other ra...ces. •The economy of Mora County has traditionally been agriculture-based. The per capita income in Mora County is typically among the lowest in the State. •Geography –The MVCHS service area is located in western Mora County, which is located on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, and extends to the beginning of the Great Plains to the east. The majority of the population lives along the waterways, in the narrow valleys of the mountains. 4. The Region •Shopping /skiing/ recreation – Distance to Las Vegas 30 miles; Taos 45 miles; Santa Fe 100 miles; Albuquerque 150 miles; Angel Fire 30 miles; Carson National Forest 15 miles, Santa Fe National Forest 70 miles, seven ski areas within 100 miles; Santa Fe Opera 100 miles •From Mora, the distance to the Colorado State line is 100 miles; Denver is 443 miles 5. The Organization •MVCHS is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a private non-profit corporation 501(c)(3). MVCHS is one of the largest employers in Mora County. MVCHS is the only primary care provider in Mora County. MVCHS provides primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services, personal care, and adult day care services. •MVCHS is a current member of the NM Primary Care Association, the National Association of Community Health Centers, the NM Health Service Corps, and the National Health Service Corps.
